Jason DeCaro- 7.2 IP, 0 ER, 3 hits, 7 Ks, 2 walks, win
In the series opener against Duke, DeCaro showed why he is still Carolina’s ace. The junior was fantastic, giving up just three hits in over seven innings pitched. He consistently got Duke’s bats to hit into weak contact (9 total groundouts) and had good command—something he’s struggled with at times late.
Ryan Lynch- 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 7 hits, 9 Ks (career high), 1 walk
Despite losing the middle game of the series, Lynch had his best performance in quite some time. He consistently pounded the strike zone, walking just one while striking out nine.
Unfortunately, Lynch was the recipient of some bad luck. Duke scored three runs in the 1st inning off of two Tar Heel errors, and the Carolina bats could never really get going. But despite the loss, Lynch showed why, when they’re pitching like they did this series, he and Jason DeCaro are as good a 1-2 punch as you’ll find anywhere in the country.

Owen Hull- 5-12 (.417), 1 HR, 2 2B, 7 RBIs, 2 walks
When you’re responsible for over a quarter of your team’s runs in a series, you know you’re seeing the ball well. That’s exactly what Owen Hull did against Duke, racking up eight total RBIs in the three games. Hull is not only getting on base at a high clip, but he’s continuing to show some power of late, hitting his third home run in as many series in Saturday’s 22-5 rout of the Blue Devils.
