Jake Schaffner: 6-10 (.600), 1 2B, 5 walks, 1 SB
This weekend, it felt like Jake Schaffner was constantly on base. In all three games, the Tar Heel leadoff man got things started in the 1st inning, getting on base, scoring, and setting the tone. He continues to be a headache for opposing pitchers, working walks, finding gaps, and causing chaos on the base paths.
Owen Hull: 4-11 (.364), 1 grand slam, 1 2B, 8 RBIs, 2 walks, 1 SB
Hull continues to be Carolina’s most consistent hitter. Coming into this weekend, few people gave the Heels much of a chance to win the series. But after taking game 1, Hull busted game 2 wide open with his 2nd inning grand slam, en route to a run rule victory over the second ranked Yellow Jackets. Thanks in large to Hull’s huge homer (and his eight total RBIs on the weekend), the Tar Heels showed the entire country that they belong in the conversation of national championship contenders.

Jason DeCaro: 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 hits, 4 Ks, 2 walks, 1 HBP, win in Game 1
After two rough outings in a row, Jason DeCaro bounced back with a strong performance against the nation’s best offense. In five innings, he held the Jackets to just one run on five hits. DeCaro was masterful in working out of jams, keeping Georgia Tech’s offense off the board until the 6th inning. In the top of the 4th inning, with runners on second and third, DeCaro proceeded to strike out the next two batters he faced — both of whom were hitting over .360.
