Andrew’s Carolina vs. NC State Series MVPs
Lead Analyst Andrew Forrest is revealing his top performers from Carolina’s series against NC State.
Andrew’s MVPs highlight the players who made the biggest impact, focusing on moments that matter, not just the stats.
Owen Hull: 4-11 (.364), 1 HR, 3 2B, 6 RBIs, 3 walks
For much of this season, Owen Hull has been UNC’s most consistent hitter. And as of late, he’s added more power to his game. This weekend against NC State, the centerfielder hit his sixth home run of the season and recorded his team-leading 67 RBI. As of late, Hull has shown a perfect blend of gap power and plate discipline, as was seen this weekend with his three walks.
Macon Winslow: 4-12 (.333), 2 2B, 4 RBIs, 1 walk
A few weeks ago, Winslow took a pretty nasty hit on the arm. Against High Point, he was called for catcher interference on a play in which his wrist caught the bat's barrel. He’s done very little catching since then; instead, he's terrorizing teams from the DH spot. This weekend, he pitched in four hits (two doubles) and four RBIs, and since becoming UNC’s primary designated hitter, his batting average has climbed back up over .300.
Erik Paulsen: Grand slam in game 2’s 17-7 win
In game 2 against NC State, the Tar Heels raced out to a 10-2 lead in the 4th inning. But a potent Wolfpack lineup refused to go down quietly. They responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th, and things were looking a bit dicey for UNC. But just a few minutes later, in the 5th inning, Paulsen came to the plate and gave the Heels plenty of breathing room, sending an opposite-field shot over the fence with the bases loaded. It was a huge hit for Paulsen, who has been struggling at the plate a bit as of late.
