Incoming Commitments - Updated as of June 28

Listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Davis Baker | SS | Penn

Position - Shortstop

North Carolina adds an experienced middle infielder in Davis Baker, who arrives after four seasons at Penn. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound shortstop was limited to just seven games in 2026 because of a season-ending injury, but his body of work speaks for itself. Baker is a two-time Second Team All-Ivy selection and owns a .297 career batting average with 180 hits, 48 doubles, 19 home runs, and 116 RBIs.

He has shown the ability to hit for both average and power while providing experience and stability up the middle, making him an intriguing addition for the Diamond Heels.

Preston Crowl | RHP | Virginia Tech

Position - RHP

North Carolina adds another intriguing arm to its pitching staff with the addition of Virginia Tech right-hander Preston Crowl. The 6-foot, 215-pound junior has primarily worked out of the bullpen during his collegiate career, appearing in 64 games while striking out 111 batters across 96.2 innings. Crowl has consistently shown swing and miss ability with a career 24.6 percent strikeout rate, and his fastball and overall stuff give him the tools to develop into a valuable bullpen piece.

I personally would not let the inflated ERA discourage you from the talent Crowl possesses. In my opinion, his ERA is somewhat misleading and was impacted by extended outings where innings got away from him. The underlying swing and miss ability, combined with his physical frame and raw arsenal, point to a pitcher with considerable upside. This feels like a high ceiling addition for the Diamond Heels and one that the coaching staff could help unlock.

Scott Doran | RHP | Coastal Carolina

Position - RHP

There is a lot to be excited about with the addition of Scott Doran to North Carolina's pitching staff for 2027. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-hander brings an intriguing combination of size, power stuff, and swing and miss ability after two seasons at Coastal Carolina. Across 45.2 career innings, Doran has struck out 64 hitters while holding opponents to just a .194 batting average. His advanced numbers are just as impressive, posting a 31.7 percent career strikeout rate and a 19.3 percent K minus BB percentage, showing the type of arsenal that consistently misses bats.

While Doran's workload has been relatively limited, the upside is easy to see. His combination of physical projection, strikeout ability, and improving command gives him the tools to compete for meaningful innings in Chapel Hill. If the Diamond Heels can help him continue to refine his repertoire and build on his development, Doran has the potential to become an impact arm in Carolina's pitching rotation.

CJ Egrie | OF | Holy Cross

Position - OF

North Carolina adds an experienced and productive outfielder in Holy Cross transfer CJ Egrie. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitter put together another strong season in 2026, batting .325 with a .474 on-base percentage while scoring 48 runs and collecting 54 hits. Throughout his career, Egrie has been an on-base machine, posting a .434 career on-base percentage while drawing 94 walks against just 91 strikeouts. He also brings speed to the lineup, stealing 96 bases over four collegiate seasons.

From a scouting perspective, Egrie is the type of player who impacts the game in multiple ways. He consistently controls the strike zone, rarely chases, and has a knack for finding ways to reach base. His combination of plate discipline, contact ability, and baserunning makes him an ideal table setter at the top of the lineup. While he is not a traditional power hitter, his offensive profile fits well in Carolina's system and gives the Diamond Heels another experienced bat capable of creating pressure every time he steps on the field.

Blaize Johnson | Utility/OF | UNC Asheville

Position: Utility/OF

North Carolina adds one of the more productive bats in the transfer portal with the addition of UNC Asheville outfielder Blaize Johnson. The left-handed hitter is coming off a breakout sophomore season in which he slashed .346/.469/.632 with 11 home runs, 16 doubles, 47 RBIs, and a 1.102 OPS. Johnson also showed excellent command of the strike zone, drawing 40 walks while striking out just 21 times, good for an impressive 9.2 percent strikeout rate and 17.5 percent walk rate.

From a scouting perspective, Johnson brings a polished offensive approach that should translate well to the ACC. He consistently barrels the baseball, controls the strike zone, and has the ability to drive the ball to all fields with emerging power. His combination of contact skills, plate discipline, and run producing ability makes him one of the more intriguing offensive additions in Carolina's transfer class. There is legitimate upside here, and Johnson has all the tools to develop into an impact middle of the order bat for the Diamond Heels.

Jamie Laskofski | INF | William & Mary

Position: INF

North Carolina lands one of the premier position players in the transfer portal with the addition of William & Mary infielder Jamie Laskofski, the CAA player of the year. The left-handed hitter is coming off a dominant sophomore campaign in which he slashed .355/.464/.665 with 13 home runs, 72 hits, 65 runs scored, and 45 RBIs while posting a 1.129 OPS. His offensive profile is built on elite bat-to-ball skills, striking out in just 9.6 percent of his plate appearances while drawing walks at a 16.3 percent clip.

From a scouting perspective, Laskofski checks just about every box. He consistently controls the strike zone, makes hard contact, and has developed into a legitimate power threat without sacrificing his ability to put the ball in play. His combination of advanced approach, offensive consistency, and defensive versatility makes him one of the most impactful additions in Carolina's transfer class. Laskofski has the tools to be an immediate, everyday contributor and projects as a difference-maker in the middle of the Diamond Heels lineup.

Jake Moss | RHP | Penn

Position: RHP

North Carolina adds an experienced arm in Penn transfer Jake Moss. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound right-hander made a significant jump into the Quakers' weekend rotation in 2026, making seven starts while logging 47.1 innings. He finished the season with 46 strikeouts and a 1.82 WHIP, while posting a career 21.1 percent strikeout rate across 82 collegiate innings. Moss also showed his ability to miss bats during a standout 2025 campaign, recording a 2.82 ERA while limiting opposing hitters to a .214 batting average.

From a scouting perspective, Moss is a pitcher whose raw numbers do not tell the entire story. His ability to generate strikeouts and previous success suggest there is more upside than the ERA indicates. Carolina's pitching development has consistently helped pitchers take the next step, and Moss has the size, experience, and swing-and-miss arsenal to benefit from that environment. He projects as another intriguing high upside addition who could compete for innings as the Diamond Heels continue to build one of the ACC's deepest pitching staffs.

Joey Ruller | LHP | Queens

Click here for an in-depth breakdown of Joey Ruller

North Carolina adds an experienced left-handed starter in Queens transfer Joey Ruller. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound southpaw is coming off the best season of his collegiate career, making 14 starts while logging 90.2 innings with a 4.47 ERA and 79 strikeouts. He also showed improved command throughout the year, posting a career best 1.26 WHIP while limiting opponents to a .263 batting average. His ability to take the ball every week and provide length gives Carolina another proven option for its weekend rotation.

From a scouting perspective, Ruller has the profile of a pitcher who could take another step under the Diamond Heels' pitching development. His combination of durability, improving command, and solid strikeout numbers makes him an intriguing addition. The advanced metrics also point to room for growth, with a 5.01 FIP and a 5.22 xFIP suggesting untapped potential. Left-handed starters with experience are always valuable, and Ruller has the tools to compete for meaningful innings in Chapel Hill.

Devin Russell | C | Maryland

Click here for an in-depth breakdown of Devin Russell

Position: C

North Carolina adds a power-hitting catcher with proven experience at the Power Four level in Maryland transfer Devin Russell. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound backstop appeared in 26 games during the 2026 season, hitting .250 with nine home runs, 26 RBIs, and a .976 OPS. Despite the limited number of games, Russell's power was evident, producing a .602 slugging percentage and an impressive .352 isolated power mark, showing his ability to change a game with one swing.

From a scouting perspective, Russell brings a rare blend of strength and offensive upside behind the plate. His raw power is his calling card, but he also has experience competing against high-level pitching in the Big Ten. While there is some swing and miss in his game, his ability to drive the baseball makes him a legitimate middle-of-the-order threat when he is locked in. Russell gives the Diamond Heels another experienced catcher with impact potential and adds valuable depth at one of the most important positions on the field.

James Voorhies | RHP | Cal State Northridge

Position: RHP

North Carolina adds one of the more intriguing young arms in the transfer portal with freshman right-hander James Voorhies from Cal State Northridge. The 6-foot-4, 197-pound pitcher put together an impressive debut season, posting a 3.16 ERA with 46 strikeouts across 42.2 innings while holding opposing hitters to just a .180 batting average. He also finished the year with an outstanding 0.98 WHIP and a 27.2 percent strikeout rate, highlighting the type of swing and miss stuff that immediately stands out to scouts.

From a scouting perspective, Voorhies has all the ingredients to become a frontline arm. His combination of size, athleticism, strike-throwing ability, and bat-missing arsenal gives him an exceptionally high ceiling. He is already viewed by many evaluators as one of the top prospects for the 2028 MLB Draft, and it is easy to see why. Landing a pitcher with this level of talent and long-term projection is a significant addition for the Diamond Heels, and Carolina's pitching development could help elevate his game even further.
